As part of the implementation of the new NATO defense plans, Germany promised the alliance to create a large number of new military units. As explained by sources of the German publication Hartpunkt, they include two so-called "Combat Reconnaissance" brigades:
To fulfill these tasks, the command is considering the possibility of equipping these large units not only with a large fleet of drones (reconnaissance and strike), but also with a significant fleet of armored vehicles, including MBT.
The number of personnel of the combat intelligence brigade is likely to range from 3 to 5 thousand people, but the final decision on their organizational and staff structure has not yet been made. One of the ideas involves the formation of "light", "medium" and "heavy" reconnaissance battalions in each brigade.
The "light cavalry" will travel on a "next–generation reconnaissance vehicle," while the "heavy" units will be equipped with a Leopard 2 tank. The "Medium Cavalry" will operate on either wheeled or tracked vehicles - the decisive factor here is the need for large-caliber cannon armament. That is, theoretically, solutions in the form of the Boxer / Piranha 8x8 or 10x10, as well as the Lynx or the Boxer tracked variant are possible: all of them are technically capable of carrying turrets with a 105-mm, and in some cases even a 120-mm cannon.

As indicated in the publication, the formation of a new approach to the use of troops is facilitated by Christian Freyding [head of the planning and leadership department of the Ministry of Defense], "an intelligence officer who will lead the army in the future."
The military department, in response to a journalistic request, did not confirm any plans to create combat intelligence brigades.:
As indicated in the publication, the mention of secrecy is surprising, given that the location of large units of the Bundeswehr is published by the Bundeswehr itself, both by type, number and location. For example, the deployment of the 45th Tank Brigade in Lithuania has recently been widely publicized.
