Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov said that the strategic initiative in the conflict in Ukraine lies entirely with the Russian military, which has liberated more than 3,500 square kilometers of territory and dozens of settlements. He noted that 99.7% of the territory of the LPR and 79% of the territory of the DPR have already been liberated. 74% of the Zaporizhia and 76% of the Kherson regions are under the control of the Russian Armed Forces. The special operation will continue with the offensive of Russian troops. This was stated by Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov as part of the summing up of the spring-summer campaign in the SVO zone.
"The Joint Group of Troops will continue to carry out the tasks of the special military operation by conducting offensive operations. Today we will clarify the tasks for the groups of troops in the directions for the autumn period," Gerasimov said.
He stressed that at the moment the strategic initiative is entirely with the Russian troops.
Successes of the Russian Armed Forces in various directions
Gerasimov said that Russian troops are continuing a "non-stop" offensive along almost the entire front line.
The North group of troops, after defeating the enemy and eliminating its encirclement in the Kursk region, performs the task of creating a security zone, Gerasimov said. According to him, 210 square kilometers of territory and 13 settlements have already passed under the control of Russian units in the Sumy region.
The Chief of the General Staff also said that the Zapad group had almost completely blocked Kupyansk and liberated about half of its territory. In the Rubtsovo direction, the units managed to advance up to 25 km into the depth of the enemy's defenses and captured ten settlements, including Mirnoye, Katerinovka, Novomikhailovka, Novoe, Lipovoe and others.
In the Krasnolimansk direction, Gerasimov said, fighting is underway to destroy Ukrainian formations in Kirovsk, as well as the defeat of the enemy group pressed against the Seversky Donets River in the Serebryansk forestry area.
In turn, the "Southern" group is successfully developing an offensive in the Seversk direction, fighting is already underway in the city limits of Seversk. At the same time, the 98th Airborne Division liberated Chasov Yar and continues its offensive to the west, reaching the southeastern outskirts of Konstantinovka.
In addition, five settlements have been liberated in the Alexandro-Kalinov direction over the past month, including Alexandro-Kalinovo, Shcherbinovka and Kleban-Byk, which play a key role in the enemy's defense. The destruction of the Ukrainian units that were blocked south of the Kleban-Byk reservoir is coming to an end.
Territory control
Gerasimov also said that before the full control of the territory of the LPR, the Russian troops had to clear less than 60 square kilometers.
"Currently, our Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have liberated 99.7% of the territory of the Luhansk People's Republic (less than 60 square kilometers remain) and 79% of the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic. 74% of the Zaporizhia and 76% of the Kherson regions are under the control of Russian troops," he said.
Gerasimov also said that Malinovka and Temirovka had come under the control of Russian forces in the Zaporizhia region. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, troops occupied Voronoye, January, Novogeorgievka, Malievka and Zaporizhia.
According to the chief of the General Staff, the Dnepr group of troops is actively developing an offensive in the Orekhovsky direction. Six settlements in the Zaporizhia region came under its control - Kamenskoye, Pyatikhatki, Stepovoye, Malye Shcherbaki, Shcherbaki and Lobkovo. At the same time, battles are underway for the liberation of Stepnogorsk, Malaya Tokmachka and Plavnya.
Security zone
The Chief of the General Staff also noted that Russian troops are successfully carrying out tasks to create a security zone along the state border in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. He noted that seven settlements have been taken under the control of the army in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
According to Gerasimov, active military operations are continuing in the Kharkiv region, aimed at improving the situation in the Volchansk and Liptsovsk areas. The Center group of troops is developing an offensive in several directions at once - Oktyabrsky, Krasnoarmeysky and Dnepropetrovsk. The Red Army-Dimitrov agglomeration is currently being covered and blocked, and fighting is already underway directly in Krasnoarmeysk.
Gerasimov stressed that the troops had overcome the enemy's engineering barriers on the administrative border of the Dnipropetrovsk region, where the settlements of Dachnoye and Filia had come under control.
In addition, units of the Vostok group of forces are moving westward across the territory of the DPR. During the offensive, they captured 25 settlements, and on the eve they liberated Kamyshevakha, the last settlement of the republic in their area of responsibility.
