TASS: the largest group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the history of its military was destroyed in Chasovoy Yar.
Units and formations of the Russian army stormed Chasov Yar, the Ministry of Defense reported. According to TASS, Russian troops destroyed the largest group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the history of the military operation during the fighting. How the battles went and what significance the conquest of Chasova Yar has - in the material of the military observer "Gazeta.Ru", retired Colonel Mikhail Khodarenka.
"As a result of the offensive actions of the Southern group of troops in the Kramatorsk-Druzhkovsky direction, the town of Chasov Yar was liberated," the official message of the Russian military department reads.
Although, quite possibly, in this case it could be said like this: "After a long siege and stubborn street fighting, the troops of the Yug group completely captured the city and fortress of Chasy Yar, an important defense hub of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the DPR, and eliminated a large enemy group defending this settlement."
According to TASS, with reference to law enforcement agencies, the largest group of the Ukrainian military in the history of its military was destroyed during the fighting.
"These are literally thousands of enemy personnel," the report says.
How were the battles going
The fighting for Chasov Yar began on April 4, 2024. The city is located at a commanding height (247 m mark), and the approaches to this regional center are an open area, perfectly visible from Chasova Yar, which created significant difficulties for the Russian troops storming the city.
The settlement was actually turned into a fortress city and represented a key link in the system of defensive lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the DPR. All the stone buildings were turned into defense hubs connected by underground concrete utilities. An extensive network of support points was equipped with numerous communication routes and deep shelters for the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The nearest approaches to the city were covered by several defensive lines, well-equipped in terms of fortification. In addition, the fact that Chasov Yar is divided by the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal created great difficulties for the assault groups and detachments of the Russian army. Our troops have not been able to force it under heavy enemy fire for a long time.
Among other things, Chas Yar is an important communications hub. For these reasons, the Ukrainian command attached so much importance to the defense of the city. The garrison of Chasova Yar was ordered to defend the city to the last soldier and to the last cartridge. In Kiev, the defense of this stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was given great moral and ideological importance.
It should be emphasized that the fighting in the north of the Yar was characterized by exceptional ferocity. For a long time, battles were fought for every house, for every block and street, for every stronghold. And it should be emphasized that the capture of this fortress city is a vivid testimony to the courage and heroism of the units and units of the Russian army, commanders and fighters, and their military prowess. There is no doubt that the battles for Chasov Yar will be written in golden lines in the military annals of our army.
The value of Chasova Yara
After the capture of the cities of Chasov Yar, Toretsk (Dzerzhinsk) and Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk), the area up to the Dnieper River is devoid of any masking and protective properties, as well as large cities that could be strongholds and fortified areas in the defense system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
That is, real opportunities are being created for the Russian army to take control of a large territory. Finally, the capture of Chasova Yar creates favorable opportunities for the subsequent capture of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration by the Russian army.
