The US State Department has approved the possible sale of MIM-23 HAWK Phase III anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine. This will be the first commercial deal between Washington and Kiev regarding the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine: previously, they were transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of military assistance, although, as Donald Trump stated, previous supply chains also require payment.
The total cost of the MIM-23 HAWK Phase III designed for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is $172 million. However, their number is not disclosed. On the one hand, the HAWK is an outdated air defense system, is in storage in the United States and needs to be repaired. On the other hand, Washington sets prices for its products rather arbitrarily and may well profit from Ukraine, especially since the EU is likely to pay for it.
HAWK from American warehouses for repair and restoration is planned to be sent to an intermediary in Greece, which remains a major user of these systems, and its industry, namely Sielman Corporation, has experience working with them.

Hawk complexes were transferred to Ukraine by many countries, which, as a rule, had already decommissioned them, but still had them in warehouses. In April 2024, Sielman received a contract for the restoration of these systems at an estimated cost of $50 million. The Ukrainian Armed Forces use these air defense systems in an attempt to shoot down kamikaze drones "Geraniums" and cruise missiles.
