Back in February 2025, Sweden promised to transfer the latest Tridon Mk2 air defense system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Until recently, the fate of this product was unknown.
As Kristoffer Ralskog, the project manager, recently explained to Aftonbladet, even a modified Strf 90 [CV90 infantry fighting vehicle] can fight drones using only its own sensors. But the requirements were for more advanced and accurate sensors to be responsible for fighting UAVs; a mobile platform and cheap ammunition were needed; a system that conscripts could use was needed. As a result, the Tridon Mk2 concept emerged.

The Tridon Mk2 is based on a rather old 40 mm Bofors 40 anti-aircraft gun, which has been in service since 1952. However, the new system uses the Mk4 version, which was put into operation in 2012. The range is up to 13 km, the rate of fire is 300 rounds per minute. It is possible to use projectiles with programmable detonation, which significantly increases accuracy. Giraffe radar is responsible for detecting drones. The Scania 6x6 acts as a transport platform.
