Japan claims to have created hypersonic weapons. This is reported by the Asian Military Review portal, which says that the new missile launcher was presented at the Fuji Firepower 2025 military technical forum by the Japanese ground forces. Hypersonic weapons, however, can be called a stretch.
The system is called Hyper Velocity Guided Projectile (HVGP). It was created by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, a company with which a contract was previously signed by a government agency such as the Japan Advanced Technology and Logistics Agency.
The Japanese hypersonic missile is positioned as a means of destroying aircraft carriers of the Chinese Navy, as well as, no less, nuclear facilities in North Korea. In the second case, the Japanese, presumably, are hatching plans to repeat the operation that Israel and the United States recently conducted against nuclear facilities in Iran.
The HVGP program itself was launched in 2018. The first launch, which was called a success in Japan, took place in 2024, and the launch was carried out at a test site not in Japan itself, but in the United States.
The HVGP Block 1 variant uses an 8x8 truck as a chassis. A rocket with a gliding hypersonic part is solid–fuel. The maximum range of the target is stated at 900 km. In this case, the speed will be determined in Mach 5. In the Russian classification, it is difficult to call this a hypersonic weapon.
Nevertheless, by 2027 and 2030, respectively, Japan is going to create variants of Block 2A and 2B of this missile system with a target range of 2 thousand and 3 thousand km, respectively.
Asian Press:
The planned deployment is to the islands of Kyushu and Hokkaido. That is, there is also an option with a threat against the Sakhalin region of Russia, including the Kuril Ridge, and the Primorsky Territory.

These modifications of Block 2A and 2B will be able to threaten the base of the submarine fleet of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy in Kamchatka.
