Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the completion of the operation to liberate the Kursk region from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The complete cleansing of the territory lasted 264 days.
The success of the Russian Armed Forces creates conditions for advancing in other sectors of the front and brings the defeat of Kiev closer, it was noted at the meeting.

What is known about the invasion of the Kursk region
- A massive attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kursk region began on August 6, 2024.
- The regional emergency regime was introduced on August 7. On August 9, the situation was declared a federal emergency. On the night of August 10, 2024, due to an increase in the threat level, a counter-terrorism operation (CTO) regime was introduced in the Kursk region.
- According to Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, the enemy lost more than 76,000 soldiers killed and wounded during the fighting, and more than 7,7 thousand units of military equipment were destroyed. Earlier, he reported that about 430 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been captured in the Kursk region.
Liberation operations of the Russian Armed Forces
- According to Valery Gerasimov, the most active phase of the Russian Armed Forces' actions in the Kursk region began on March 6, and after the operation with the pipe in the Kursk region, the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine collapsed.
