Brussels. January 17th. INTERFAX - The European Union strongly condemns the drone attack carried out by the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) on a fuel storage facility near Abu Dhabi airport (United Arab Emirates).
"Attacks on the civilian population and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable," the representative of the European Foreign Service (EMU) said in a statement released on Monday. "This attack increases the risk of further escalation of the Yemeni conflict and undermines ongoing efforts to end the war."
It stresses that the conflict in Yemen can only have a political solution. The EU calls on all parties to work with the UN Special Envoy to end hostilities and conclude a comprehensive political agreement.
Earlier on Monday, the inter-Arab TV channel Al Jazeera reported that the UAE condemns this "terrorist attack on civilian infrastructure facilities committed by Houthi militants."
"It will not go unpunished," the TV channel quotes excerpts from the statement of the country's Foreign Ministry.
According to the UAE police, as a result of the attack, a fire started on the territory of the international airport in Abu Dhabi.
As a result of the strike, two Indian citizens and one Pakistani citizen were killed.
Due to the incident, there was a short-term malfunction of the Abu Dhabi airport.
